He is also known for being an adventurer who loves racing in powerboats, hot-air ballooning and trying to break world records. Not only that, he is involved in and has initiated various philanthropic efforts, including many that focus on environmental issues.

In November 2017, Branson’s net worth was estimated at $5.1 billion by Forbes.
On 18 July 1950, Branson was born to Eve and Edward James Branson in Blackheath, London. With two younger sisters, he was the eldest of three children. Branson had a great education growing up, attending a Surrey prep school and then the independent Stowe School in Buckinghamshire until he turned 16.
While he was at school, Branson wasn’t the greatest academic achiever. He struggled in his classes and he also suffered from dyslexia which may have impacted his academic performance..However he was undoubtedly a smart boy, showing signs of entrepreneurship from a young age. Branson started his own magazine at the age of 16, a youth culture publication called ‘Student’. His parents were proud and supportive of these efforts, as his mother had been an entrepreneur herself at different periods in her life.
Branson’s career really begun quite early in his life with the launch of his magazine called ‘Student’ at the age of just 16. Within the magazine he featured the interviews of many famous personalities at the time such as Mick Jagger. He included adverts for some of the most popular records of the time in the magazine, and it proved to be a popular publication.
Branson decided to start selling records under the trading name Virgin. Virgin was the name suggested by one of his very first employees, who suggested it to reflect their own newness in business. Virgin sold records for much lower prices compared to most of the high street stores. Eventually, Branson opened his first record shop in Oxford Street in the heart of London.
In 1972, Branson decided to expand his business to include a record label, Virgin Records. He had a recording studio set up in a country estate just outside Oxford, where up and coming artists could record their albums. Virgin Records’ first release was Mike Oldfield’s debut album, which topped the charts and became a bestseller.
The label went on to sign other soon to be major artists such as the Sex Pistols, the Rolling Stones and Paula Abdul. Virgin Records quickly established itself as the largest independent record label in the world. It had to be sold by Branson in 1992 in order to keep Virgin Airways afloat, which was hard for him to do considering it had been his very first successful Virgin business.
In 1984, Branson launched his airline, Virgin Atlantic Airways. More Virgin brands followed, with the creation of Virgin Trains in 1993, Virgin Mobile in 1999, and the launch of Virgin Blue Australia in 2000. By this point Branson was worth a little more than £3 billion and had firmly established his presence on the Sunday Times Rich List.
In September of 2004, Branson announced that he had signed a deal which would mean that a new space tourism company, Virgin Galactic, would soon be launched using the Spaceship One technology. Virgin Galactic was created to allow passengers to fly into space, with the flights being available to purchase for $200,000.
Branson continued expanding the Virgin Group with his next venture, Virgin Fuels. This venture was created as a response to global warming to offer cheaper fuel options for automobiles and someday aircrafts. Branson’s efforts for the environment continued with his 2006 pledge to invest some of his profits (about $3 billion) into researching fuels that would be more environmentally friendly.
In 2006, Branson decided to sell his Virgin Mobile company and launch a new company called Virgin Media. He also formed Virgin Animations as Virgin Comics that same year, and Virgin Health Bank the following year. Virgin Health Bank was formed to offer expectant parents the chance to store the blood stem cells of their new baby’s umbilical cord in a stem-cell bank. He continued his foray into healthcare with the launch of Virgin Healthcare in 2008, a chain of healthcare clinics that would offer medical and homeopathic care.
The expansion of the Virgin group didn’t stop there. Branson created a new business called Virgin Hotels with 2010, with the first hotel due to open in Edinburgh this year. However, throughout the Virgin journey, there have been a few failed ventures amidst all the successes. These include the likes of Virgin Cola, Virgin Publishing and Virgin Cars.
The Virgin Group now has a presence in around 35 countries worldwide, including the United Kingdom, South Africa, the United States of America, Canada, Australia, and many more. They employ around 70,000 employees around the world working across their various brands and businesses.
In 1972, Branson wed Kristen Tomassi. The marriage didn’t last long unfortunately, ending in divorce in 1979. He married again in 1981, to his current wife Joan Templeman. The wedding was held on his own private island, Necker Island. Necker Island was hit by a hurricane in 2017, and is currently uninhabitable.
Branson has two children with Joan, a son named Sam and a daughter called Holly.

Branson is also known for making several attempts to break world records. This began in 1985, when he first attempted to complete the fastest crossing of the Atlantic Ocean. This led to his boat capsizing and the RAF were needed to provide rescue. The attempt received a lot of media coverage, with some calling for Branson to pay the government back for the costs of the rescue efforts. Branson didn’t give up and made another attempt the following year. This time he managed to beat the world record by two hours, together with expert in sailing Daniel McCarthy.
In 2004, Branson continued setting world records by crossing the English Channel from Dover to Calais in record breaking time. His next attempt to cross the Atlantic Ocean in 2008 was less successful, as turbulent weather destroyed much of the boat he was on.
Branson is also known for his various appearances in the media. This includes appearing on many popular television shows, including Friends, Only Fools and Horses and Baywatch. He also attempted to create his own reality show called The Rebel Billionaire: Branson’s Quest for the Best. Fun Fact: Branson is known to dislike ties and prefer much more casual clothing, both in the workplace and when he’s at home. He is quoted as saying “I have been carrying out a lifelong campaign to say bye to the tie. I often carry a pair of scissors with me, ready to cut off the tie of any unsuspecting wearer. I even have a cushion on Necker Island made up of some of my victims! I remain convinced that ties only exist because managers, after spending years being forced to wear ties by their bosses, decide to force the next generation to do the same. They subtly encourage conformity. Most people in business dress the same and that contributes to them acting the same. Wearing a tie really can restrict new ideas and innovative thoughts – not to mention breath!”
Fun Fact: If you’re interested in learning more about Branson’s journey in his own words, check out his autobiography. Called “Losing My Virginity: How I’ve Survived, Had Fun, and Made a Fortune Doing Business My Way”, Branson’s autobiography was published in 1998 and more recently updated in 2011. If you’re more interested in just his business philosophy, he focusses on this in his 2014 book called “The Virgin Way: Everything I Know About Leadership”.
Branson is one of the donors who funds a group formed by Nelson Mandela called ‘The Elders’. This group is based on the premise of a small group made of leaders who would work together to help resolve difficult conflicts around the world. It is chaired by Kofi Annan.
Branson has also long been a supporter of environmental issues. In 2006, he famously pledged to donate £3 billion towards helping to address and deal with global warming over the next decade. He also hosted a gathering on Necker Island in 2008 that was focussing on discussing environmental issues with a host of famous personalities including world leaders and other entrepreneurs. The group, including names like Larry Page, Jimmy Wales and Tony Blair, discussed all the problems that were arising around the world due to global warming and potential solutions and ideas.
Branson is also a signatory of the campaign known as Global Zero. This initiative was developed to focus on the elimination of nuclear weapons internationally. 300 leaders and more than 400,000 citizens from around the world have signed up to support this initiative, along with Branson. As part of their efforts, they have developed a practical plan to eliminate the nuclear weapons, and produced a documentary film on the subject.
Branson is also a supporter of the “Say No” Campaign, which has been developed by the African Wildlife Foundation and WildAid to create awareness around wildlife poaching and wildlife trafficking.
In more recent years, Branson has been focussing most of his time and attention on his space tourism project. He is committed to the successful development of a suborbital plane that will allow passengers to travel in space. The development of the project has been moving ahead with various tests, with the impressive SpaceShipTwo having a successful test launch in 2013. Branson was said to be truly delighted by the success of the test. He told NBC News, “We’re absolutely delighted that it broke the sound barrier on its very first flight, and that everything went so smoothly.” By 2013, over 500 people had reserved their tickets to fly on a Virgin Galactic spaceship.
3 years ago, Branson also announced the formation of Virgin Voyages, a cruise line. The first Virgin cruise ship, which will be able to hold upto 2800 passengers and 1150 crew, is on track to launch with its first voyage in 2020.

Born on May 2nd, 1972 in the town of Hayward in California, Dwayne Douglas Johnson is the son of Ata Johnson and wrestler Rocky Johnson. His grandfather was a wrestler, and his grandmother was a promoter in the world of wrestling. Many would say that the passion for wrestling ran in his family and his blood.
Johnson was briefly living in New Zealand, but returned to the U.S. at a young age. He spent his early years of schooling in Connecticut, and then moved to Pennsylvania due to his father’s job. Whilst at high school in Pennsylvania, Johnson joined the football team, the track team, and the wrestling team.
Due to his talent on the football field, Johnson was offered many offers from Division 1 collegiate programs. He chose the University of Miami, and went there on a full football scholarship. In 1991, he was chosen to be part of the national team the Miami Hurricanes. Unfortunately, he was injured soon after and had to be replaced.
While at the University of Miami, Johnson also met Dany Garcia, who he would soon decide to marry. In 1995, Johnson received his degree in criminology with physiology from the university. He went on to join a team in the Canadian Football League the same year. Two months after the season begun, Johnson was cut from the team.
As many of Johnson’s relatives were in the wrestling industry, it didn’t come as a huge surprise to anyone when he decided to become a wrestler himself. Though his father initially wasn’t as into the idea, he finally agreed to train Johnson himself.
Johnson managed to get some trial matches with the WWF in 1996, through a connection to the company. He used his real name on the ring at that time. In 1996, Johnson officially came on board with the World Wrestling Federation and his debut under the name Rocky Maivia. The name was his father and his grandfather’s ring names combined.
Rocky Maivia made his debut with rest of the entourage of Marc Mero on the 4th of November in 1996, as part of Monday Night Raw. His first WWF official match led to him being the only survivor of an elimination match of eight.
Maivia wasn’t instantly appreciated by fans. The initially thought that his character was a little cheesy. However, after a string of successes and title wins, he started to gain a reputation on the ring.
After his second win of the Intercontinental Championship, Johnson suffered a knee injury on the ring in a 1997 match. After this time, he started to refer to himself as The Rock and often talked about himself in the third person. He also would often insult the WWF audience in his promos, and such antics made him more and more famous.
The Rock had many feuds with other wrestlers throughout his time at the WWE. He regained the Intercontinental Championship belt by 1998, and he also overthrew Faarooq to become the new Nation of Domination leader.
Over the next few years, The Rock continued to defeat rivals including Dan Severn and Triple H. He also managed to defeat Mankind and Shamrock in a steel cage match to rise to the ranks of being the top contender for WWE Championship.
In 1998, The Rock joined The Corporation, and continued his ongoing feud with Stone Cold Steve Austin. He even stole Austin’s personalised championship belt.
The Rock was known for his hugely entertaining promos, and his popularity rose over the years. He started to refer to himself as The People’s Champion. He also continuously feuded with fellow wrestler Mankind over the main WWF Championship. For a while the championship went back and forth between the two. Their feud finally ended when The Rock managed to win his third championship from him. However, he ended up losing it to Stone Cold Steve Austin at the following WrestleMania XV.
The Rock tried to position and portray himself as a bit of a villain, but his fans loved him and cheered for him. He became something of a fan favourite by the end of the 90s. His charismatic persona and verbal skills had much to do with his popularity, and his fan loved to repeat his various catchphrases. The Rock merchandise also proved really successful.
In 2000, The Rock managed to win his fourth World Wrestling Federation Championship. And then at King of the Ring, he went on to win it a fifth time. He eventually lost it to Angle at the No Mercy match, and continued to feud with him for some time in an attempt to regain it. He was eventually successful and found himself a six-time winner of the WWF championship.
The Rock was suspended from the WWF for a short while and took the time off to act in his first major film The Mummy Returns. Upon his return to the WWF in 2001, he quickly resumed winning titles such as the WWF Tag Team Championship with Jericho and the WCW Championship (now known as the World Championship). He lost this to Jericho at the end of 2001.
The following year, The Rock was one of the headline acts of the WWE Asian Tour. He travelled to Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan to perform at the sell-out shows. Upon his return, he challenged wrestling legend Hulk Hogan to a WrestleMania match. He managed to defeat him in an iconic match between two legends that was viewed by millions.
After a short sabbatical, The Rock returned to break a record by winning his seventh WWF Championship. He defended the title for some time before losing it to Lesnar. Following this, the Rock decided to take another sabbatical from wrestling to focus on some more films.
The Rock returned in 2003 and restarted feuds with both Hulk Hogan and Steve Austin. After a short while he decided to leave again and returned to WWE in other roles that didn’t involve wrestling. From 2004 – 2009, The Rock made only sporadic appearances at WWE, choosing instead to place his focus on his film career. He did appear as the WrestleMania host in 2011. Over the next few years he returned to the ring only occasionally.
The character of The Rock was so strong and so widely loved, that he was able to easily cross over and adopt the same character in more mainstream channels. He appeared in music videos, hosted Saturday Night Live, and had guest appearances on television shows, all as The Rock. He was starting to be regarded as a modern pop culture icon.
Johnson’s first leading role in a movie was in a spinoff of The Mummy Returns called The Scorpion King. The Guinness World Record stated that his $5.5 million paycheck made him the highest paid actor in his debut lead role. He also appeared on the front cover of many major magazine publications, including Rolling Stone and Newsweek.

Dr Dre Net Worth
Born with the name Andre Romelle Young, this famous rapper is much more well known by most of us by his stage name Dr Dre. There isn’t much in the music industry that Dr Dre doesn’t have the talent for. He is a rapper, a songwriter, and a record producer. And he is proficient at playing various instruments including the keyboards. To add to that, he’s a hugely successful entrepreneur as well. He is the CEO of both Beats Electronics and Aftermath Entertainment. His huge net worth makes him one of the richest people in the world of hip hop.
Read on to find out more about the story of this musically gifted business mogul.
Dr. Dre’s net worth is estimated at $740 million. He is widely regarded as the richest man in hip hop, and a lot of the net worth is due to his business Beats by Dre. The acquisition by Apple is really what cemented his fortune.
Born on February 18, 1965, Andre Romelle Young was the first of Verna and Theodore Young’s children. His parents got a divorce just seven years after his birth, but he gained three siblings through his mother’s remarriage.
Young was raised in Compton, an area known for its gang violence. It was this very violence that made his parents transfer him from Vanguard Junior High to the relatively safer Roosevelt Junior High in the suburbs. His grandmother played a major role in raising him. His mother’s remarriage to Warren Griffin brought four step siblings into his life, (one of whom would eventually be the rapper Warren G).
Young didn’t have the best grades at school, and was much more focused on socialising and music. His cousin was the producer known as Sir Jinx. At a young age, he became father to a son named Curtis with Cassandra Greene. Curtis was primarily raised by his mother, and didn’t actually meet his own father until 20 years later.
From an early age, Young loved to attend live music and DJ gigs. He often frequented the club Eve After Dark to watch live rap performances. His first real gig in the music industry was as a DJ in that very club, calling himself Dr. J based on his favourite professional basketball player Julius Erving.
It was at Eve After Dark that Young met another aspiring rapper called Antoine Carraby who would later become a member of N.W.A. called DJ Yella. At this time, Young decide to adopt the name Dr. Dre. It was a mix of his Dr. J alias and his own real first name Andre. Dre and Carraby used the back room at the club as a studio to record their first few demos.
Dr. Dre went on to join a musical group called World Class Wreckin’ Cru in 1984. They dominated the hip hop scene in the West Coast in the early 80s. Their first hit was a record called Surgery, and it sold more than 50,000 copies just in the Compton area.
Together with DJ Yella, Dre performed mixes at local radio stations. He was frequently absent from school, and was almost kicked off the swim team for this reason.
After he left high school, Dre’s mother wanted him to pursue further education so he enrolled himself at the Chester Adult School situated in Compton. He then briefly attending a school for radio broadcasting. He left Chester School pretty soon to focus on his music career.
Dr. Dre met the rapper now known as Ice Cube in 1986. They collaborated on various songs together, which were released through record label Ruthless Records. The first album by the group calling themselves N.W.A. was called Straight Outta Compton and was a huge success, even though there hadn’t been much airplay on the radio and no big concert tours to promote the album. For their second album, Dre did much of the production as well as featuring in it heavily.
Following disagreements with fellow group member Eazy-E, Dre decided to leave the group in 1991. Together with his then bodyguard Suge Knight who founded Death Row records, Dre continued to release music. The first single was a collaboration with Snoop Dog.
Dre’s first solo album was called The Chronic. It was praised for his distinctive style of rap and quickly became a cultural phenomenon. Snoop Dogg also featured heavily on the album. The sound of the album came to dominate the hip hop scene of the early 90s. It was a triple platinum album, and Dre had the first taste of huge success with it. He also won a Grammy Award, Best Rap Solo Performance for the song “Let Me Ride”

Death Row Records signed up rapper 2pac to their label in 1995, and he was featured on California love with Dr. Dre. The following year, Dre decided to leave the label due to his concerns that Knight was engaging in corrupt practices. He decided to set up his own label, Aftermath Entertainment.
The first album released by Dr. Dre’s new label featured many songs with him on it, as well as many with other artists signed to the new label. The album sold well but was not as widely praised as Dre’s previous work. Rumours spread that the label was suffering from financial troubles. There was a turning point when Eminem (at the time not a well-known artist) was signed by Dr. Dre. His first album with Dr. Dre producing some of the songs was a huge success and generally received critical acclaim. It revived the Aftermath Entertainment label’s place in the industry.
Dr. Dre decided to release his second solo album in 1999, which featured many famous collaborators such as Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Mary J. Blige. The album became hugely successful and re-cemented Dr. Dre’s place in the music industry. He won the Grammy Award Producer of the Year for the album.
After the success of this, Dr. Dre decided to spend some time focusing on production for other artists. This included co-producing many of the tracks on Eminem’s famous Marshall Mathers LP album. It was again a huge success for Eminem and consequently reaped a lot of acclaim for Dr. Dre for the production. Dre also produced popular singles released by Mary J. Blige and Gwen Stefani around this time. Dre continued his successful working relationship with Eminem by executive producing his third album, the Eminem Show in 2002, as well as his fourth album Encore.
The Aftermath Entertainment label also signed up New York rapper 50 Cent, and his first album called Get Rich or Die Tryin’ was a major success in 2003. Dre also produced 2005’s major hit single How We Do by the rapper The Game.

Many say that his love for perfectionism is what drove him not to release it, as he didn’t want to release anything he wasn’t completely happy with. The single I Need a Doctor by Eminem and Skylar Grey from the album was the biggest success from the releases so far. The following year, Dr. Dre announced his plans for a break from the world of music to focus on his business endeavour Beats By Dre. and to spend time with his family.
In 2015, Dre announced that he wanted to release an album called Compton that he said was going to be his final album. Apple Inc. purchased the brand from Dr. Dre in 2014 for a reported $3 billion, which is what makes him the richest man in the world of hip hop now.
